Computer account names (userids) and email addresses are created according to your official UH employee or student record. The standard naming convention is
first-initial + last-name
or
first-initial + middle-initial + last-name
or
first-initial + middle-initial + last-name
If a userid is already in use, it will be necessary to add a number to the end of the last name to make it unique. Examples of this are jcougar, jacougar, and jcougar3.
Name Changes
Someday you might need to change your name. Computer accounts can be updated, if necessary, to reflect name changes. To request a name change, the computer account owner can contact the ITSC at 713-743-1411 or support@uh.edu. Account ownership will be verified using your Cougar Card, the official UH identification card. Names must be changed in your official university record before your computer accounts can be changed.
